Dear Fellow Toastmasters in District 65
Do you know of a Toastmaster who is outstanding not only at giving presentations, but in being a leader as well? A person who would bend over backwards to help not only their club and its members, but other clubs and members as well?
Now is the chance to have that person recognized!
Since 1975, District 65 has presented the Ben Luce Memorial Award to a deserving Toastmaster at the Spring Conference. The award is presented in memory of John Ben Luce, DTM, a Past District 65 Governor, whose contributions and dedicated service to the organization and its members and whose promotion of Toastmasters in the community are legendary and established ideals to be emulated by all Toastmasters. The name of the award was changed in 2005 to recognize and memorialize the continuous service, commitment and accomplishments of another dedicated, well known Toastmaster of District 65, Pat Panfile, DTM, who also was an excellent role model for Toastmasters to strive to follow. Pat, a past recipient of the Ben Luce Memorial Award, not only served as District Governor of District 65 but also became President of Toastmasters International, the only person to date to have this distinction in District 65.
Clubs in District 65 are encouraged each year to nominate a candidate for this award: a nominee need not be a member of the club making the nomination. Any member in District 65 can nominate an outstanding Toastmaster for this award. Enclosed, for your or a club member’s use, is a nomination form to aid in identifying and substantiating the qualifications and reasons why your candidate is deserving of this recognition. Additionally, letters of recommendation may be submitted along with the nomination form. Please complete the nomination form without the input, contribution and involvement of your candidate, so that when the announcement is made at the conference, the recipient will truly be surprised. Please submit your form (and attachments) to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or to my home address (found in the downloadable form below) no later than March 29th.
Recipients of this award include many Toastmasters that you might know, such John Lum (last year’s recipient), myself, Bob Logan, Sam Mehta, Harry Carlson, DeWitt Henricks, Ruth Parmenter, Marian Lamanna, Dick Czarnecki, Hal Blair, Donna Sokolowski, Arnold Krueger, Victoria Wienke, Gloria Langston, Betty Muka, Ruth P.
