Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About The New Pathways Program… And More

By Keith Maderer, DTM – D65 – Club Growth Director

Pathways Catalog

Have you been confused, curious or even frustrated about the new Pathways program?

If so, join the club. We have been hearing small bits of information for the past few years and now it is crunch time.

We are rolling out the program in Region 9, District 65 on May 15th, 2018. You should be excited and anxious to see what is in store. This new education program has been developed with real world applications and you… our members… in mind.

It will allow you to focus your training, your education and your skills on the specific areas that you want and need to achieve your goals.

Recently, Sam Mehta, our District 65 – Chief Ambassador for Pathways, received and sent us the complete 66 page – Pathways Paths and Projects Catalog. I asked if I could share it with you.

Here it is: (Click this link to download your copy)

Inside you will find a wealth of information. Each of the 10 paths is described in detail along with a brief description of each of the projects that you can accomplish within that path. Then it goes on to describe each project with its purpose, overview and what eh project includes.

I have already learned more about the Pathways program by spending a few minutes reading this catalog than I have participating in multiple short online and in-person presentations.

Take a look and see for yourself.

My Challenge To You:

Download this catalog, review it and prepare any questions for your Pathways Guides before they visit your clubs over the next 6 weeks. If you do, we will not only be ready for Pathways on May 15th, 2018, but we will be hitting the pavement at full speed when it arrives.

You owe it to yourself, your club and your fellow members to see how much better we can all be with this program. I am ready for the challenge… Are You?

Four Ways To Spice Up Your Meetings

Four Ways to Spice Up Your Toastmasters Meetings

Eddie Kasprzyk

By Eddie Kasprzyk –  Marketing Committee Member

· Relate the theme to a current event. As we all know, the 2018 Winter Olympics has just wrapped up. In our last club meeting, we did have a Winter Olympic theme. Random Olympic trivia was asked throughout the meeting and whoever answered a question correctly received a plastic Olympic Medal ribbon to proudly wear around their neck (kudos to Wendy Miller of Westwinds!). It was such a fun meeting and we even got to keep the Gold Medals that we “won”.

· Invite other clubs. Having a group of new faces in the room may prompt you out of your comfort zone and you’ll be able to work on fine tuning your public speaking skills that you usually don’t get to work on. Example: Evaluating someone’s prepared speech that is a total stranger.

· An All Table Topics Meeting. Who doesn’t love table topics? Break out of the norm and allow every member to have a speaking role and possibly speak multiple times. This is a great way to get those fellow members, who are a bit shy, to come out of their shell.

· Change up the location of your meeting. By having new surroundings, you’ll get the opportunity to practice in a setting that you may not be used to. Example, if you generally meet in a classroom, try having your next meeting in a restaurant around the table. This is a great way to practice giving a toast for your next dinner party.

Remember….this is your club. Try something new for one of your upcoming meetings and have fun. Having fun is what Toastmasters is all about!

Pathways Base Camp Duties

PATHWAYS

Base Camp Manager Duties

By Sam Mehta, DTM, PDG

Pathways Base Camp

We have been recently informed by Toastmasters International that Pathways educational program will be roll out in District 65 during May of 2018.

In each club, the vice president education (VPE) will serve as the Base Camp Manager, with support from the club president and secretary. The VPE is responsible for conducting several tasks in Base Camp to ensure members are fully supported on their Pathways journey. The link below will walk you through each of the main tasks. Each task has a tutorial in Base Camp which will walk you through the specific steps. They can be accessed by navigating to Tutorials and Resources. All current and future club VP Education are requested to study the tutorials and become ready to work with members of your club in making a smooth transition to Pathways program.

I believe that in Toastmaster year starting 2018-2019, one of the most vital and significant position in the club will be of the VP Education. I suggest that membership in all clubs in district 65, elect, appoint, or choose one of the most experience and tech savvy member in their respective clubs, in order to have a smooth and effective transition into Pathways program.

Program Quality Update 12-2017

District 65 Program Quality Update

By Lillian M. Knight Faison DTM, Program Quality Director

I extend a huge thank you to our members for their dedicated efforts in improving their leadership and communication skills. Our theme this year is Make Toastmasters a Part of Your Story.

I am grateful to continue my service with the District 65 Trio. It is my pleasure to work with this dynamic team. 5 months into our term, Club Growth Director – Keith Maderer and his Team have formed 5 new clubs and we are currently #1 in Region 9 in membership payments.

Toastmasters is a Part of my Story. I give credit for the positive growth in my personal and professional life, to my involvement in Toastmasters.

Toastmasters International requires all club officers to be trained twice a year. Better trained officers contribute to a better membership experience. It is critical to our District success that officers understand their responsibilities and meet our member’s needs.

Congratulations to the awesome leadership team and members that helped us to achieve 67.3 % of our officers trained during our Summer TLI’s. As District Leaders, we strive to train 100% of our officers. When 4 four club officers are trained in both in the summer and winter, their club receives 1 point toward the Distinguished Club Program.

Our Super Saturday Winter TLI’s will be held on Saturday, January 13th, 2018 at Genesee Community College in Batavia and on January 20th, 2018 at the BC/BS in Syracuse. They will run from 8:30 am – 2:00 pm. These TLI’s will provide you an opportunity to meet other club officers, network and to learn from each other. Our team of District Leaders will also be conducting officer training make-up sessions. You have a number of opportunities to be trained at a time that will fit into your schedule.

Pathways, our new and exciting educational program will be included in our TLI’s.

We are asking for your support again to attend our winter TLI. Our officer training can start on December 1, 2017 and training is to be completed by February 28, 2018.

District 65 held a successful Fall Contest to showcase some of the best that Toastmasters has to offer. I was so excited to see the excellent team work at our contests, TLI’s and at our Fall Conference in Buffalo.

Please save the date for our Spring Conference in Binghamton, New York on April 27th to 28th, 2018.

Thank you Sam Mehta our Pathways Chief Ambassador and Guides for keeping us in the loop regarding Pathways for the last 5 years.

Pathways in Region 9, District 65 will roll out in May of 2018. Our success requires that Pathway Guides be on board prior to our roll-out to educate our clubs.

As Members of District 65, we need your energy, passion, leadership and enthusiasm. When we work together as a Team, our core values and positive action, will accomplish our goals.

Where do you want to go… and how do you plan on getting there?

If you have any questions or would like to assist with TLI ‘S, conference and contest planning, please reach out to us. Contact me at 585-414-3821 or email is lmknight@gmail.com.

FTH-Quick Tip 1

Free Toast Host Website – Quick Tips

By Keith Maderer, DTM, Club Growth Director

If your club is using the Free Toast Host (FTH) website that every club receives for free when they file an Application To Organize (ATO) or become a Chartered active club, then you will want to check out this quick tip.

How to make the most of your Free Toast Host website.

1. If you are already using the FTH site

    • Make sure you always add guests to your FTH guests email list. Then you can always invite them to meetings, open houses, contests and other social events.

    • Use member profile photos on your agendas. When a guest visits your club, their printed agenda will show the names and profile photo of your members that are speaking and filling the meeting roles.

2. If you are a corporate club, but are not using it yet.

    • Setup your FTH website (it is free) and use it just for your members, agendas and email contacts.

    • Use this site to help promote your club to others within your corporate environment. Use photos, TI video tips and downloads to help your membership grow.

We are very lucky. Our own Roger Morehouse, DTM is one of the FTH Ambassadors. Even better news is that he is our District 65 webmaster, the Area 42 Director, and a proud member of District 65. Thank you Roger.

Roger Morehouse FTH

Wes Brzozowski from the Endwell club is also an Ambassador for FTH and is a great resource for maximizing the use of search engines to find club websites.

Pathways – Here We Go

Pathways – Here We Go

By Sam Mehta, DTM, PDG, Pathways Chief Ambassador

Since TI has informed us the tentative roll-out date of May 2018 for Regions 8 & 9, I have done some “preliminary planning of estimated dates” of major milestones that will need to be accomplished in order to have a successful roll-out of Pathways in District 65. I am making an assumption here that May 31, 2018 [verses say May 1, or May 15, 2018] will be the roll-out date and based on this roll-out date, the following items/actions will need to be complied with in 2018.

14 to 18 weeks prior to roll-out: [January 15, 2018 to February 15, 2018]

PQD and CA will receive a Pathways Guide Selection Process Checklist and other resources to assist them with screening on Pathways Guide for every 10 clubs in the district.

Two to nine weeks prior to roll-out: [March 21, 2018 to May 15, 2018]

Pathways Guides and/or Ambassadors will contact club leaders to schedule a club visit.

Two to six weeks prior to roll-out: [April 15, 2018 to May 15, 2018]

A Pathways Guide and Ambassador will visit each club to train members on starting their Pathways journey. During these visits, the pathways Guide and Ambassador will deliver the Pathways Learning experience presentation and roll-out kit.

Six Weeks prior to roll-out to 12 weeks after roll-out: [April 15, 2018 to August 31, 2018]

Pathways Guides will share their virtual support session with club leaders and collect questions to address during the session.

Additional Resources:

There are many additional resources available to assist club members and club leaders in their Pathways journey. They include tutorials, FAQ’s, quick reference guides and more. Many of them can be found on “Base camp” and will be accessible once Pathways has rolled-out in our district.

Needless to say, that if there are any delays in roll out of Pathways in other Regions where the roll-outs are scheduled prior to Region 8 & 9 [January 2018 thru’ April 2018] the May 2018 for D-65 will naturally be postponed. However the above time-table of milestones that will need to be accomplished will remain, but will be based on a different roll-out date for district 65.

Once again the purpose of the above “preliminary planning of dates” is to make key stakeholders in the district aware of this time-table, as well as in informing and communicating with the D-65 membership at-large.

TI has prepared a formal PATHWAYS Preparation Schedule”. Here is the link:

Hope everyone has a great Holiday Season. Then get ready for the Pathways in 2018.
