In Toastmasters, success isn’t accidental — it’s intentional, measurable, and repeatable. Two of our most powerful tools, Moments of Truth (MoT) and the Distinguished Club Program (DCP), work hand-in-hand to strengthen clubs and elevate the member experience. When used together, they create a clear picture of what’s working, what needs attention, and how to reach club goals with purpose.
Moments of Truth gives clubs an honest look at six critical areas: first impressions, membership orientation, fellowship, program planning, leadership, and communication. These are the experiences that shape whether members stay, grow, or fail to renew membership. Meanwhile, the DCP provides measurable milestones — education awards, membership growth, officer training, and administrative excellence — that reflect a club’s health and momentum.
When clubs align MoT insights with DCP goals, success becomes strategic with everyone working toward the club goals together.
Here are four ideas to turn these tools into real progress:
- Moments of Truth Check-Ins
Don’t wait for problems to surface. A short, honest review keeps the member experience strong and prevents surprises. (https://www.toastmasters.org/resources/moments-of-truth) - DCP Dashboard at Every Executive Meeting & Share with Members
Officers should track goals monthly, sharing with all members following the officer meeting. Celebrate wins early and identify how members can meet their growth goals and help meet club goals. - Align Club Activities with DCP Milestones
Plan speech marathons, membership drives through open houses and Speechcraft, or special educational workshops based directly on upcoming goals. - Member Development Plans
Sit down with each member once or twice a year to map out their next achievements. Encourage members to sign up for roles early and often. The ability to plan for several months at a time, will help members plan their goals. Member growth fuels the club’s success. {For me, Excel helps me plan and track my projects.
